Governor mourns

ITANAGAR, May 22: Much awaited musical concert of Niharika Naidu, a talented singer, who has won laurels in many cultural events throughout the world, organized at Raj Bhavan today was not held as a mark of respected to the people who lost their lives in the tragic Mangalore air crash.

Led by State Governor and State First Lady, a minute silence was observed at the venue by the congregation which includes the State Assembly Speaker, deputy speaker, ministers, Parliamentary secretaries, senior officers and special guests. It was followed by Naidu rendering devotional prayers.

Governor Gen JJ Singh expressed shock and grief on the tragedy and has offered prayers for departed souls.

“I also offer my prayers to Almighty to give enough strength to the affected family members to bear the irreparable lost”, he added.

 

DC calls coordination meeting

TEZU, May 22:  R.K. Sharma, who has taken over the mantle of Lohit district administration recently, called a coordination meeting with Officers and staffs at DC’s conference hall yesterday.

Exhorting all Officials to work as cohesive units of administrations, the DC was very specific about pendency in official works. Work culture, transparency and commitment are keys to good governance and people whom we serve have yardsticks in RTI Act to measure our abilities, he said. In the interactive session, the officers and Officials spelt out the immediate problems faced the branches of district administration.

ANSU seeks HM’s intervention

ITANAGAR, May 22:   All Nyishi Students Union in a memorandum to the Home Minister has called on him to initiate talks with Assam government on atrocities being faced by the villagers of Bello-Lora of Kimin Circle in Papum Pare so that normalcy is restored in the area. The Union said that intervention from both the state governments is needed so that people along both sides of the border live peacefully.

 It said that people are being harassed and development works stalled by the Assam officials while adding that last year, a school building was destroyed at Bukla village by the forces. It further demanded deployment of indigenous officers from APCS cadre at border districts as they have better understanding of the local problems. The Union has further called for proper functioning of Directorate of Border Affairs with sufficient funds and infrastructure.  It further said that Department should have funds to take care of the victims of illegal evictions being carried out by the Assam authorities.

The Union also called for early arrest of culprits involved in the murder of College Student Dohu Raja.

 

Apang invited to Vesak celebration in Bangkok

ITANAGAR, May 22:  Former Union Minister Omak Apang has been invited to attend the 7th United Nations Day of Vesak Celebrations that is scheduled to be held in Ayutthaya and Bangkok , Thailand from May 22-26 and is being hosted by MC university and Inner Trip Reiyukai International (ITRI).

The theme for the 2010 celebrations is Global Recovery-A Buddhist Perspective. The thrice sacred day of Vesak celebrating the Birth, Enlightment and Passing away of Gautam Budhha was recognized by the United Nations in its General Assembly resolution of 1999.

ITANAGAR, May 22: Arunachalees have the inborn talents for every sport, said Arunachal Pradesh Governor, Gen JJ Singh, while expressing happiness on selection of six Arunachalee boys for the Army Sport School, Pune. Accompanied by his father Lt. Col JS Marwah (Retd.) and 1971 Indo-Pak War hero and Vir Chakra awardee Major Gen Manjeet Duggal (Retd.), Gen Singh, who was at the golf driving range of Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy, Chimpu today said, the indigenous youth have potential for every adventure and regular sport but just needs direction and opportunity. And I am trying my best to provide it, he added.

Along with development and financial empowerment of rural populous, Gen Singh, who have been encouraging the youth towards outdoor games suggested some points to the officials for further improvement of the only Sport Institute of the State and also assured to take up with concerned authorities on it.

Making some lofty and powerful shots covering more than the 200-yard length driving range, Gen Singh asked the sport Department to initiate another golf orientation camp for students and youths, once the academic session begins.

 

NEDWS chalks out action plan

ITANAGAR, May 22: The North East Development Welfare Society (NEDWS) today resolved to take up various activities towards preservation of indigenous culture, heritage and identity and promotion of indigenous dialects and Tanilipi script. These decisions were taken after threadbare discussion on various development activities in Arunachal Pradesh in particular and North East in general in the executive body meeting of NEDWS held here today.

The meeting also decided to preserve Mithun as a state animal and take up social activities like eye camp, tree plantation at I G Park, Polo Park, and Donyi-Polo Hearing Impaired school campus, Chimpu, the Society said while adding that it will also extend cooperation to leading NGOs like Muskan and AADS. The Society chief advisor Tani Koyu  impart a lesson on Tanilipi script to all the members, while NEDWS president Tabom Boje highlighted the activities to be taken by the organization. Society’s finance secretary Michi Tani also spoke on organization matters.

 

UNO lauds decision

ITANAGAR, May 22:  United Nyishi Organisation (UNO) “congratulated” the MLAs of the community for waking up from their deep slumber to discuss burning issues confronting the Nyishis. The organization gave the response after the MLAs of the community called a meeting on June 10 to discuss the raising numbers of organizations from the community. Without naming, UNO further said that many otherorgnisations have mushroomed from within the community against one particular organization as instead of addressing the concerns of the community has relegated itself to promote self interest.

The Union further said that an enquiry be constituted detailing the organizations indulged in “blackmailing and the Nyishi leaders for lakhs of money for organizing elections, political movement against several political leaders”.

 

Dambuk faces flood fury

ROING, May 22: Sisiri River is flowing above the danger level and causing massive erosion to Ivrom wet cultivable field. The flood water at Dambuk area  threatens  Ivrom, Rebok and Peli, the rice bowl of the sub-division and the people at large.

“This Sisiri River is great threat to Dambuk and if Ivrom washed out then Rebok and Peli would equally face the same disaster. People here are facing great hardship and are making use of elephant service over river Sisiri to ferry the people.  However getting out of the subdivision is unthinkable during flood”, said former minister Roding Pertin. Pertin  said the Sisiri river need to be tamed immediately. A master project is to be made to protect Dambuk and the entire sub-division, else the area and its people may face havoc in days to come, Pertin added.

During rainy days the entire sub-division remains cut off following flood in Dibang, Sisiri and their various tributaries. Chopper service is only the link during monsoon. Former minister also urged the state government and the MLA to provide regular copter service to mitigate the  suffering of the people.

 

Centre assured early construction of green field airport

ITANAGAR, May 22: Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful  Patel has assured to enhance the project cost of Karsingsa Greenfield Airport from the estimated cost of Rs 4.50 crore to Rs 9.50. This assurance came when the state Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Ngurang Pinch called on the minister at New Delhi on May 20.  The minister also assured to expedite the procedural work for early construction of the  airport to help local people take the advantage of flight service in their own state,  informed state NCP unit vice president Karto Kaye in a release.

Meanwhile, state NCP unit expressed gratitude to union minister for his assurance for early construction of the green field airport.

 

Land donated for health sub-centre

ITANAGAR, May 22: The people of the Joram area in Lower Subansiri district decided to donate a plot of land for construction of health sub-centre  near the existing old sub centre at Joram. This decision was unanimously taken by the panchayat leaders, gaon buras, head gaon bura and general public in a development meeting held at  Govt secondary school, Joram today, informed Joram Mich, Gram chairperson, who also presided over the meeting.

While appreciating the department concerned for according sanction  for construction of new health centre, the  people of Joram also appealed the authorities to begin the building  construction work.

 

VT-AWIC gets Uma Maa Sahib Award

CHONGKHAM, May 22: VT-AWIC Youth Library Network received the Uma Maa Sahib Award instituted by Anu Shiksha Seva Trust (ASSET), Wakro.

Chandralesh Chouhan, Unit Chief of Army Wives Welfare Association of the 26 Maratha Light Infantry presented the award to the Network.

Kesilu Tayang, an active library volunteer in wakro received the Citation and cash award from Chouhan, in the presence of the VT-AWIC Youth Library Network coordinator S. Mundayoor, Col. H.S.Chouhan, Commanding Officer, 26 MLI and senior officers of the battalion.

The award is extended by ASSET every year in honour of Maa Uma Devi, a saintly mother in Sikkim.

 Col. Chouhan appreciated the tireless efforts of the Library volunteers and expressed hope that the Library network will help the youth in many ways.

Interacting with Kesilu and Amilu, Chandralesh Chouhan congratulated the Library volunteers and lauded their efforts to promote the much needed healthy reading habit. ASSET also thanked Capt, Abhay for organizing the function.  

 

International Biological Diversity Day observed

ITANAGAR, May 22: Nature Care and Disaster Management Society, Ziro in collaboration with the GB Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development, North East Unit, Itanagar has celebrated the International Biological Diversity Day at Ziro Valley School today.

Speaking on the function, Chairman NCADMS Rubu Buker highighted the importance of Biodiversity and also briefed about the need to protect flora and fauna of the state. The traditional practices of Jhum cultivation destroyed the many important plant species including the medicinal plant species, which need to be adressed properly by formulating proper policies for the protection of these species. And the local people are to be taken care of by adopting alternative method for their livelihood. So that their extreme dependence on the natural resources can be minimized at lowest level, he added.

On the occasion, drawing and essay commpetitions for school children was conducted.

Mihin Mamung, Rubu Nomo and Hage Oniya got the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize in the senior group essay writing competition. While, Pisa Ram, Michi Tadii and Hage Tatu were adjudged as 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winner of the junior group drawing competition respectively.

 

APB&OCWWB’s awareness campaign in W/Kameng and Tawang end

ITANAGAR May 22: Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Constructions Workers Welfare Board(APB&OCWWB) Chairman Jalley Sonam has completed his 12 days awareness tour in West Kameng and Tawang districts successfully.

The  main aim of the tour was to bring awareness amongst construction workers of two districts  on welfare   and social security measures  being taken for the workers engaged in Building and Other Construction activities in the state under the APB&OCWW Board and Labour Acts.

Sonam along with T. Jerang, Labour Officer West Kameng  and  Tawang and members of All Arunachal Pardesh Workers Union & INTUC West Kameng Unit held series of awareness camp-cum-workshop in the labour concentrated areas of this two districts  during the tour.

Sonam was highly impressed by seeing the people of Sange village working at  Mini Hydro Project  site at Jangdok  under the supervision of HGB of Sange. Each household is contributing their labour and  wages  will be equally distributed among them, HGB informed. He also interacted with local women workers under BRO and enquired about their well being. He opined that this should be set as an example in all other districts of the state and young boys and girls should be encouraged to work under BROs so as to minimize unemployment problems in the state.

Earlier he held awareness camp at Jang  on May 17 last and apprised the labourers and HoDs about the Boards objectives. Later on the way back to headquarter he met deputy commissioner of West Kameng. The DC assured that he will immediately direct all works departments under his jurisdiction to pay 1% cess to the Labour Welfare Board.

 

Study circle remembers Rajiv Gandhi

ITANAGAR, May 22: Rajiv Gandhi Study Circle, Arunachal Pradesh unit in collaboration with Ceed Institute observed the “Remembrance Day” on the 19th death anniversary of former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi on May 21.

The state co-ordinator of the study circle, Kipa Kaha  while recalling the dream of former PM Rajiv Gandhi to make India strong,  independent, self reliant, he requested the youths to work with dedication to fulfill his vision.  R. L. Lalum, General Secretary, APYC also stressed to constitute RGSC in the zonal, districts and every educational institutions of the state to strengthen the organization.

Another coordinator Nima Sange said one has to be follower of Gandhian philosophy while participating dedicatedly in the nation building process.  Development can be achieved only  in peaceful environment. The gathering unanimously decided to conduct seminars, essay competitions and conference in every educational institution in the state. Co-ordinator Kiron Lonchung explained the aim, objectives and programmes of the Study Circle.

Earlier,  Ashok Gehlot, chairman of RGSC New Delhi has appointed Kipa Kaha, Nima Sange and Kiron Lonchung as state coordinators for Rajiv Gandhi Study Circle Arunachal Pradesh unit.

 

VKV Parents Association meet held

ITANAGAR, May 22: Arunachal Pradesh Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Parents Association (APVKVPA) discussed various problems being faced by the Vidyalayas in its central executive meeting at Naharlagun today.

While reviewing the reported assurance of the education minister to extend grant and aids in term of 6th CPC to the teaching and non-teaching staff of all the VKVs in Arunachal Pradesh during the meetings on May 8 and 28 last, the Association said based on the assurance, the AP VKV Trust had to rollback the fees hike in VKVs.

The meeting also appealed the experienced and senior VKV teachers not to leave the Vidyalayas since the State Govt is taking up the matter to remove the disparity of salary and allowances of the VKV teachers, the Association said. It further said that the right to education should be implemented in all VKV schools from the current academic session.

 

Common accountaing system training held

ITANAGAR, May 22:  Manpower Development and Management Institute, Shillong in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh Coop. Training Centre Naharlagun conducted a three day training programme on common accounting stystem for Micro Credit Cooperative at Kadorna Welfare Multipurpose Co-operative Society Ltd, Itanagar from May 19-21 last.

Chairman, AP State Coop. Union AT Kulo attended the inaugural function as chief guest.

Director MDMI, Shillong Dr. JB Dutta and Chairperson, KMPCS Ltd, Itanagar Yapi Kulo also spoke on the occasion.

ITANAGAR, May 22: Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, East Kameng district has appealed the authorities to complete construction of Seppa-Chayang Tajo, Seppa-Bameng and other under-construction roads, besides beatification of township as early as possible.

 

Training prog on MGREGA in Kurung Kumey ends

ITANAGAR, May 22: Handicapped, Orphan, Widows and Old-Age Society (HOWOAS) had conducted a series of gram panchayat level training programme on MGREGA in various circles of Kurung Kumey  disrict from May 11 to 19 last.

During the training programmes, all the circle officers of respective circle took part and educated the panchayat members, gaon buras and villagers on various aspects of the MRGREGA and its funding pattern.  The programme was sponsored by the State Institute of Rural Development.

ITANAGAR: National Students Union of India (NSUI) Arunachal Pradesh is observing the 46th birth anniversary of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, Itanagar on May 27.

 

Green Mount excel in AISSCE result

ITANAGAR: Green Mount School, Itanagar excelled in the AISSCE Class XII result 2010.

A total of 49 students appeared in the examination. The students achieved 96% pass percentage with 70% of the student securing first class marks. Reshma Venu topped the list of successful students with 81.2%.

The school managing committee appreciated the students for their success and bringing laurel to the school. It also thanked the teaching faculty of the school for their good works and hope they will continue to strive for the same in near future also.

 

‘Book the culprit’

ITANAGAR: Adi Baane Kebang (ABK) appealed the District authority to take up proper investigation to book the culprit involved in the theft case of ancestral beads of an old woman at Mariyang recently.
